Meet Mike Baker

Baker Street Home Inspection of Cumberland, BC was founded in 2016 by owner/inspector Mike Baker. Mike has achieved Accredited Home Inspector (AHI) status within the Home Inspectors Association of British Columbia (HIABC). AHI status is reserved for experienced home inspectors within the industry who have completed hundreds of inspections and a rigorous report writing evaluation. Mike has a passion for building science, and is constantly seeking continuing education to stay on top of the ever changing inspection industry. Before becoming a licensed home inspector, Mike worked in shipyards in Vancouver and Victoria as a steel fabricator and shipfitter. He was an apprentice, journeyman, then chargehand, and was responsible for repairing and refitting everything from large vessels to ferries to navy frigates. During this time, Mike also helped friends and family with home renovations and building projects. Mike is always renovating his own homes and has much experience to share as a homeowner. All of these backgrounds share common traits that make for an excellent Home Inspector: strong attention to detail and superior communication skills with a variety of people.

Mike’s an avid outdoor adventurer, and you can often find him mountain biking, surfing, skiing, swimming, hiking, fishing, canoeing and camping around Vancouver Island with friends and family.

Mike became a licensed Home Inspector after having a career-changing experience when he made an offer on a new home. His home inspection revealed significant issues with the property he intended to buy, and thanks to his home inspector he was able to make an informed decision and back out before it was too late. Mike recognized the services of a home inspector were invaluable, and he wanted to help others who need advice on the house they are buying or selling.
